Under the Lake

Thanks to Barbara W Beachman for starting Monday’s Finish the Story.
Monday’s Finish the Story provides a picture along with the first sentence for us to create a flash fiction with 100 -150 words based on a picture.

Once upon a time far, far away a young girl sat on a mountain top overlooking the rust colored lake below. She wondered when she would have a chance to live her life. She never felt like she truly experienced life in her small sheltered community.

The men’s laughter from the nearby village teased her. Her shoulder slumped. She knew her day would come to visit the village but it was so hard to wait.

She pulled her shoulders back, her full lips thinning slightly as she pressed them together. Her eyes turned hard, glittering orbs of blackness. She leaped into the cold rusty colored depths of the lake flicking her tail as she swam towards her small community under the lake.

I was also thinking she was a mermaid.
